Hi, parents! I hope you’re having a wonderful transition into this beautiful season. We have established how much I love Halloween and this time of the year. So, let’s talk about some fun, spooky snacks to make for or with your little ones.
Let’s get into it!
Spider Cookies
First up on our easy-snacks roster are the super simple Oreo cookie spiders/bats. This one is a hit around my house because my son is currently in his Batman era. So all the fun bat PJs, socks or really anything at all is actually for Batman, not for Halloween.
This treat requires no baking. You will need:
- Candy eyeballs or any round candy that resembles an eye.
- Package of Oreos.
- Pretzel sticks.
- Semisweet chocolate chips.
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave, and the melted chocolate will act as the glue to hold everything together. For the spiders, you will open the Oreos and place 3 pretzel sticks on each side of the cookie. You may want to use some melted chocolate here to make sure everything stays put. Close up the cookie, add some eyeballs, and ta-da! You’ve got a spider cookie!
Bat Cookies
For the bat cookies, you will need to disassemble some Oreos and break the cookie down the middle. These two halves will now be your bat’s wings! Use the melted chocolate to secure the wings to a whole Oreo cookie. From there, you just need to add the eyes.
Congrats! You did it! See, I told you it wouldn’t be too hard. This is also a wonderful activity if you want to do something fun with your little one within a time limit.
Banana Ghosts
Next up on our list of easy peasy Halloween treats is the Banana Ghost! When I said we are keeping it simple, I meant it! For this one, you will need:
- Bananas.
- Regular chocolate chips.
- Mini chocolate chips.
I totally understand how annoying it is to have to buy mini and regular-size chocolate chips. But it’s definitely worth it to have such an easy treat and a pretty easy way to convince your little one to eat a banana.
All you need to do for this is cut the banana in half lengthwise. Now you have two faceless ghosts. Add two mini chocolate chips for eyes and one regular-sized one for the mouth. There you have it!
Orange Pumpkin
To go along with the simple banana ghost is the just as easy orange pumpkin! You can use a regular-sized orange, if you’d like. But I prefer to use clementines.
All you need to do is add a small piece of a celery stick or break off a piece of a pretzel stick to use as the stem of the pumpkin.
If you want to get more involved, you also can use some of those mini chocolate chips to create eyes and a jack-o'-lantern zigzag mouth shape too.
It’s amazing to see a kiddo light up turning a midday snack into something totally new and fun!
I hope you are able to incorporate some of these simple snacks with your little ones this Halloween season. Let me know how it goes, and if you have any suggestions of other treats you’ve tried, let me know! I’d love to try something new.
